The client is one of the largest growers and distributors of ornamental flowers and potted plants in North America, with a history of more than 75 years. As an organization, they follow ethical and sustainable business practices to ensure a brighter future for the business and community.
Being into geographically diverse operations that’s spread across the country, the client used a range of devices to communicate and execute tasks. This exposed them to a host of security threats. Since most of the devices were interconnected with each other and to the internet, a single attack could potentially compromise a large part of the operation.
Although the individual devices had individual applications installed (which offered varied levels of security), they lacked a centralized security management system. Their existing device management infrastructure was also inadequate, which led to efficiencies. On top of that, meeting the data protection requirements and other compliance standards was also a major concern.
After a thorough assessment of the challenges, we realized the need to have a comprehensive solution to enhance the client’s security posture and device management capabilities at the same time.
We devised an integrated solution that leveraged Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Intune.
While Microsoft Defender provides advanced threat protection across all devices and assets, Intune facilitates the enforcement of security policies, smarter device management, and ensures compliance across all corporate and personal devices.
Integrating the two platforms allowed us to safeguard all sensitive data assets and streamline device management. This can potentially drive-up operational efficiency.
The integrated solution that we devised for the clients, broadly focused on three key aspects:
Implementing Microsoft Defender: We proposed deploying Microsoft Defender across all endpoints. We configured the system to offer extensive threat protection. This included real-time security monitoring, that allowed us to automatically detect and respond to even the most sophisticated security threats. This centralized and strengthened the client’s cybersecurity defenses.
Deploying Microsoft Intune: Simultaneously, we devised an endpoint management solution based on Microsoft Intune. This helped in securing corporate as well as personal BYOD systems. Intune made it easy to enforce consistent security policies, ensure data compliance and provide secure network access.
Data Protection and Conditional Access: Conditional access is crucial for a modern security strategy. To ensure this, we configured MS Intune with conditional access policies. This ensured that only those devices which are identified to be compliant and secure, can access sensitive data. The approach significantly reduced the risk of unauthorized access and data breaches.
The Process We Followed
Here is an overview of the process we followed:
Assessment and Planning: The current security posture was assessed, security policies were defined, by engaging with stakeholders.
Environment Preparation: The infrastructure was prepared, and devices were enrolled in Microsoft Defender and Intune.
Solution Deployment: Microsoft Defender was deployed, followed by Microsoft Intune. We also implemented conditional access policies.
Testing and Validation: The integrated solution was thoroughly tested. The logs and reports were reviewed.
Training and Support: Apart from distributing comprehensive documentation, we also offered personalized training programs to the team for faster adoption.
Apart from enhancing security posture and centralizing device management, our solution also helped to achieve the following results for the client:
Operational Efficiency: By automating security processes and device management, we reduced downtime and manual efforts. This led to a more efficient use of resources.
User Satisfaction and Adoption: Our solution and delivery mechanisms minimized disruption during work. Training and support initiatives ensured faster adaptation.
Cost Savings: Using Defender and Intune within the existing Microsoft 365 environment saved costs as the client did not have to invest in multiple tools on separate platforms.
