Why Do You Need to Use Analysis View in Business Central?

With Analysis View, you no longer have to look at one giant list of numbers. You can quickly and effectively quickly sort and look at your financial data in different categories (also called dimensions). This could be anything like a department, project, or location.

Why Should You Use It?

No more Excel exports: You can slice, dice, and filter your financial data directly inside Business Central. So, you don’t need to download spreadsheets to make pivot tables.

Answer specific questions instantly: You can quickly find answers to questions like, “How much did the Marketing department spend last quarter on ad campaigns?”

Builds better reports: You can integrate Dynamics 365 Business Central Reports with Analysis Views. This automatically organizes your data by the categories that matter most to your business.

How to Set Up Analysis View in Dynamics 365 Business Central?

Here is an overview of the steps that you should follow:

Create an Analysis View with a Code, Name, and Account Source, and assign the dimensions (up to 4) it should break amounts down by.

Run Update on the view after creating it, and again periodically (or enable Update on Posting) so it stays current with new postings.

Use Analysis by Dimensions to browse and verify a view’s data directly, independent of any report.

On a Financial Report, set Row Analysis View Name (and/or Column Analysis View Name) to connect it to a view — this is what exposes dimension filters on the report.

Open a connected Financial Report’s Dimensions fast-tab to filter it live by any of the view dimensions (e.g. Department, Area, Customer Group).

Remember that Global Dimensions 1/2 aren’t required for Analysis Views — any dimension code can be assigned as Dimension 1–4 on a view.
