How to Execute Power Apps and Power BI Integration? 

There are two different methods of executing Power Apps and Power BI integration. We will look at them individually and see how you integrate the two platforms together. 

Integrating Power BI Tile in Power Apps 

A Power BI dashboard tile can be defined as a snapshot of your data, which is pinned to the dashboard. Tiles can be created from a report, Excel, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports, and other sources.  

Here are the steps that you need to follow for Power Apps and Power BI integration by embedding the Power BI tiles. 

STEP 1: Create the Power BI Tile

To start things off, you need to create the desired tile first. To do that, you will need to log in to your Power BI Service account. Tiles are only available in Power BI Service and not in Power BI desktop. Once you are logged in, you need to create a new report or open an existing report. Next, pin the desired visual or a dashboard tile to a dashboard. 

STEP 2: Get the Embed Code for the Tile 

Now, you need to navigate to the dashboard containing the tile that you want to embed. When you click on the ellipsis on the tile, you would get the option to ‘embed tile.’ When you click on it, you will get the embed tile. Copy the code. 

STEP 3: Create or Open Your Power Apps 

Next, you will need to open the Power Apps application where you want to put the tile. If you have not created one, then you need to create one. 

STEP 4: Add the Power BI tile to your app

Navigate to the screen where you want to add the Power BI tile. From the ‘media’ menu, insert a Power BI tile control to the screen. 

In the embed code property of the tile control, paste the embed code you have copied earlier from Power BI. 

You can also resize the tile as per your requirement so that it fits perfectly into the app screen, without reducing the usability of the application. 

STEP 5: Preview and Publish the App 

At this stage, we are almost done with the integration. All that is left is to publish the application. Before publishing the application, you need to preview the app and rectify any usability or other issues. 

After you have tested everything, you can go ahead and publish the app. The Power BI tile will be visible within the app, showing the data generated by Power BI service in real time. 

If you want a comprehensive integration, then you use Power BI embedded. 

Using Power BI Embedded 

Unlike the previous method where you are embedding dashboard tiles, you can embed entire Power BI reports to your Power Apps application with the help of Power BI embedded. Here are the steps that you should follow: 

STEP 1: Create or Open a Power BI Report

The first thing that you need to do is simple – just log on to your Power BI Service and open the report you want to embed in the Power Apps application. If you do not have it already, you can create a new Power BI Report. 

STEP 2: Enable Power BI Embedded

In the Azure portal, navigate to the Power BI embedded section. Here, you need to create a new Power BI embedded capacity or use an existing one. 

STEP 3: Generate the Embed Token 

At this point, you will need to use the Power BI embedded APIs to generate an embedding token for your Power BI report. The embedding token will provide you with access to reports when you embed it in the application. 

STEP 4: Embed the Power BI Report in Power Apps 

In the Power Apps application where you want to show the report, use the Power BI Embedded control to embed the Power BI Report. 

You will need to use the embedding token generated in the previous step to authenticate the embedded report. 

STEP 5: Publish the App

You can resize and position the report within the App and test it to detect any issues. After all the detected issues are resolved, you can publish the app.
